Lineal Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury Becomes First Boxer To Launch Exclusive NFT Collection

NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) which enable the certification of digital art utilizing blockchain technology has seen a significant increase in the last couple of months. The most notable sale was Beeple selling his digital artwork for $69m in March. Now, lineal heavyweight champion boxer Tyson Fury who has a number of endeavors outside of boxing is entering the space releasing a premium collection of NFTs including playing cards and memorabilia in collaboration with artist George Rollo and Fomo Labs.

Fury’s impressive boxing career has taken many turns. His major milestone which really brought him to an international audience was his masterclass performance against the then heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015. Klitschko had been the reigning champion for 10 years and many had written off Fury. After achieving so much so young and having a desire to achieve more which couldn’t be fulfilled at the time in addition to a less than fair reception from the British media the years that followed this landmark victory saw Fury have very public battles with depression and drug addiction. 

Always a fighter Fury overcame many of these afflictions and cleared his name in the media, lost eight stones in weight, and returned to boxing to fight WBC champion Deontay Wilder with the first fight ending in a draw and the second ending with an emphatic victory for Fury. Fury’s fans have been a big part of this journey and he has been very open and honest about his trials, appearing on various talk shows and writing a number of bestseller books. Seeking a way to utilize new technology in order to allow select fans an even more exclusive way to share in his journey Fury’s management team Gold Star Promotions has partnered with Fomo Labs and George Rollo to create NFT memorabilia.

Rollo, the artist putting together the creation has a unique style that combines culturally relevant themes along with popular culture. He has worked with the likes of Drake and 50 Cent as well as producing a number of high-end bespoke pieces. As grateful as Rollo is for the opportunities he has had so far, the opportunity to combine blockchain technology to create NFTs and collaborate with Tyson Fury is the “highlight of my career” he says.
