With the Tokyo Olympics officially here and star athletes in the public eye, it’s the perfect time for Warner Brothers to release the trailer for their latest sports drama, King Richard, a movie about the man who stood behind real-life tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams. Will Smith (Concussion) stars as Richard Williams, Venus and Serena’s father, as he pushes them to be better, faster, stronger, and independent so that they might change the world.
This isn’t the first time Smith has stepped into a biographical role, the first being his work as Mohammad Ali in the sports drama Ali, followed by his role as struggling salesman Chris Gardner, who worked hard to provide a life and home for his son in The Pursuit of Happyness. More recently, Smith has starred in the third Bad Boys film, Bad Boys for Life, the sci-fi thriller Gemini Man, the live-action Disney remake Aladdin, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion.
