The Desert Rock Resort is an ambitious project from acclaimed Miami design company Oppenheim Architecture. The luxury hotel is part of The Red Sea Development Company’s (TRSDC) project, a new initiative established to help attract more people to Saudi Arabia. Showcasing the natural beauty of the country, the Red Sea Project is all about sustainability and using local resources to create attractive tourism opportunities.
Built into the side of a granite mountainside, the Desert Rock Resort will contain 48 villas and 12 hotels rooms. Entering via a hidden valley, the rooms range from ground floor dwellings to excavated suites high up in the mountains. It will consist of state-of-the-art facilities including a world-class spa, lagoon oasis for swimming, fitness center, and remote destination dining areas offering spectacular views. The resort is also constructed in a way that minimizes the destruction of the surrounding landscape and helps limit pollution.
There are also numerous activities available for those staying at the resort, such as being able to hire dune buggies, go stargazing, or take a hike with a local guide who will explain the history of the area.
“We wanted to create a destination that allows guests to experience Saudi Arabia’s untouched beauty,” said John Pagano, CEO of TRSDC. “Desert Rock will provide guests with uninterrupted spectacular views while preserving the natural landscape for future generations to enjoy. We have drawn inspiration from the surrounding environment, while providing unparalleled luxury, allowing guests to connect with nature and create memorable experiences.”
The Desert Rock Resort is just one of many projects the TRSDC hopes to complete over the next decade. Its aim is to build another 50 resorts spanning across 22 islands as well as an international airport, several marinas, and, of course, a world-class golf course.
The Desert Rock Resort will be open for guests in 2023. For more information visit TRSDC and Oppenheim Architecture.
